Romans 5.1-2

Good morning Church! I’m preaching this Sunday on THE SMART-HOUSE PROJECT - This is PART SIX

I am greatly blessed to share this “Project” with you. THE SMART-HOUSE PROJECT is one that God has laid upon my heart. And now, through the work of the Holy Spirit I am able to share it with you through text, as well as audio form. THE SMART-HOUSE PROJECT is based upon the words of Jesus Christ found in Matthew 7:24 - 27 and John 20:31.

In Matthew 7:24 Jesus says, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (NKJV) For “these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31 – NKJV)

Building a successful and prosperous Smart-house includes, but is not limited to, using the right tools. For this project, our "tools" are placed into two categories. There are hand tools and then there are power tools. We will begin with the hand tools.

To build any house, once again, you need the right tools. The same is true with building your spiritual house. So, let's look at the hand tools. THE HAND TOOLS ARE WHAT YOU USE IN WHAT YOU DO (and are doing) FOR GOD! Anyone who is going to be building a house should have a "tool box". In that “toolbox” one should have a SAW, a MEASURING TAPE, a SCREWDRIVER, a PAIR OF CHANNEL LOCKS, a HAMMER, a GOOD SET OF “PLANS”, and some DUCT TAPE.

The apostle Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Having the right "hand tools", you will be able to get a deeper understanding of the Word of God showing you how to "build" your Smart-House (your spiritual house) on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. And if you have been sitting on the solid foundation for some time you will learn how to complete the “building up” of your spiritual house, drawing closer in fellowship with God. So let’s look at the first tool you will need to have in your spiritual “toolbox”.

THE FIRST HAND TOOL we will choose is A SAW. A saw is used to cut things off. When wood, metal, or stone are too big for their intended use, a saw is used to cut them down. A SAW is also used to cut out the damaged or decayed parts of wood, metal, or stone. The saw, for our project, will represent FORGIVENESS.

Amazingly, Colossians 2:6-12 tells us that our hearts can have the "putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ". When a person places their faith in Jesus Christ, God forgives them for their sin. In other words, God "cuts" the bad stuff, the sin, out of our hearts by the circumcision of Christ. You see, it is through Christ that we can be transformed into a child of God!! And not only a child of God, but we can have the "power of the Godhead fully"! When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, who died for their sins, and believes He is God's Son who died on the cross, was buried, and rose the third day, God uses a "spiritual saw" and cuts out the "old man" of sin. So, using the "saw of forgiveness", God circumcises the heart of the penitent sinner. Because of God's forgiveness of our sins through the work of Christ, our sins are forgiven. And when our sins are forgiven, it is like having the sin "cut" away.

THE SECOND HAND TOOL we will choose is A MEASURING TAPE. The measuring tape, for our project, will represent JUSTIFICATION. The measuring tape justifies the steps we take to cut, rip, and build something using the right and true way. And since we are talking about building our spiritual house we must find the right and true way. Now, the right and true way is knowing we are justified in the eyes of God.

We can know we are justified by reading the books, chapters, and verses of the Bible (which is God’s word). The books of the Bible are like the marks on the measuring tape for "feet". The chapters of each book are like the "inches" mark on the measuring tape. And verses of each chapter of the books of the Bible are like the fractions (the 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 marks) of the measuring tape. For example: Looking at a measuring tape, we see the mark of "6 foot 5 1/2 inches". This means the 6th book of the New Testament is Romans; the 5th chapter, and verses 1 and 2. Romans 5:1-2 tells us that we can be sure we have eternal life through Jesus Christ because we are justified by our faith. That is, our faith in Jesus Christ.

THE THIRD HAND TOOL you need is A SCREWDIVER. A screwdriver will represent FAITH. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God! And Hebrews 11:1 tells us that Faith gives us certainty of what we do not see and the guarantee of what we hope for. In fact, Hebrews chapter 11 is known as the "faith chapter" of the Bible. In it one will find a list of Bible heroes of faith and what they accomplished because of their faith. Which alludes to the question, “What have you done with your faith for God?”

Well folks, I am sorry but we are out of time for today. But until next week, think about how special and precious you are to God, how that makes you feel and how YOU can use the first three “tools” in doing something great for God.

And, if you are enjoying this study but would like a study book that goes along with this project, just sent us a note by private message on our Facebook page. Or, if you would like to have a LIVE SEMINAR FOR YOUR GROUP which would include study books, face-to-face discussions, and an exciting Power-Point presentation that gives a visual understanding of these Godly principles, once again, just send us a private message via our Facebook page.
