The Smart House Project - Part 5
2-timothy-2-15

I’m preaching this Sunday on THE SMART-HOUSE PROJECT

This is PART FIVE

I am greatly blessed to share this “Project” with you. THE SMART-HOUSE PROJECT is one that God has laid upon my heart, and through the work of the Holy Spirit, I have put it into text, as well as audio form and now able to share it with you. It is based upon the words of Jesus Christ found in Matthew 7:24 - 27 and John 20:31.

In Matthew 7:24 Jesus says, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (NKJV) For “these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31 – NKJV)

A SMART-HOUSE is a house built using the right plan, the right tools, the right materials, and the right foundation. Let's begin with using the right plan. Just about anyone can build a house, but not everyone follows the same plan. Some may look very similar on the outside, but are different on the inside. Some may look different on the outside, but very similar on the inside. They are different because of the plan they follow.

Now, a smart phone has many functions and programs called “applications” or “apps”. But no matter how many functions or “apps” it can process simultaneously or hold in its memory, someone designed it, built it, and programmed it. And if you have a smart-phone but only use it to make phone calls, it would be a real waste, and a shame. The creator of the smart-phone had a preconceived idea for the purpose of the smart-phone to function with numerous applications running all at the same time. The same is true with people: humans. The truth is, God created you and has a plan for you! God has a plan for you, but if you never read or study the plans God gave you, how will know how to build your house? That is, your spiritual house (a.k.a. "Smart-House"); and just as there are different houses, apartments, and other dwellings, God has created a plan designed just for you!

We have looked at Psalm 139:13-16 and Jeremiah 1:5. But, now in Matthew 7:24-27 the Scripture shows us that the wise man (woman) needs to be building their spiritual house on the solid rock of Jesus Christ. The foolish man (woman) builds the house on sand and in vain! But, the wise man (woman) builds the house that lasts through the storms of life and through all of eternity!

Building a successful and prosperous Smart-house not only includes using the right plans but also means using the right tools. Our "tools" are placed into two categories. There are hand tools and then there are power tools. We will begin with the hand tools.

From our Scripture text, you discovered that Jesus Christ used the metaphor of comparing a house that was built upon the sand to a house that was built upon a rock (Matthew 7:24-27). You learned that it was best to build a house upon the rock. Because, when the storms come, your house may sustain some damage, but will not fall when it is built upon a rock. And you discovered that Jesus was talking about building your spiritual house. But to build any house you need the right tools. The same is true with building your spiritual house. This is what I call building your own smart-house; hence, the "Smart-House" Project.

The apostle Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Having the right "hand tools", you will be able to get a deeper understanding of the Word of God. You will learn how to "rightly divide the word of truth" by looking up the original words and language. Using a good study Bible, a Bible dictionary, and a concordance will show you how to "build" your Smart-House (your spiritual house) on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. But to begin building, we will need to gather up some tools.

But folks, I am sorry we are out of time today, so we will begin gathering up our tools next week. But until next week, think about what basic tools you might use to build a house, and what spiritual tools you might use to build a spiritual house. And finally, think about how special and precious you are to God, and how that makes you feel. Then come on back next week to learn more about God our Divine Designer, and what your design and purpose is for life!
